The Tennessee 4-H Clover Bowl Tennessee History for Kids is working with Tennessee 4-H to help plan and promote the CLOVER BOWL -- a statewide competition where students learn and answer questions about Tennessee history, civics and geography; 4-H; agriculture; and family and consumer sciences.
The idea behind the Clover Bowl is to learn about Tennessee, agriculture and the 4-H and HAVE A LOT OF FUN DOING IT. Teams are organized into five divisions (one for grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) and compete against other schools in their county for a chance to go to an annual competition in May. In 2007, about 9,000 students and 200 schools participated in the Clover Bowl.
This year the Clover Bowl finals will take place at Tennessee Tech University on May 13 (for Middle Tennessee) and at the University of Tennessee/Knoxville on May 15 (for East Tennessee). (There will not be an event for West Tennessee, although West Tennessee teams are welcome to participate in Middle Tennessee.) Champions from each of the five divisions will be crowned at those two events, while there will also be an ongoing competition (hosted by Tennessee History for Kids founder Bill Carey) tentatively called "Who wants to be a Tennessee millionaire?" One other thing about the Clover Bowl: Even if you can't participate in the statewide competition, you as a teacher can benefit from this great event. The Clover Bowl question bank (TN section) contains hundreds of questions about Tennessee history, civics and geography that have been written by Tennessee History for Kids founder Bill Carey with the curriculum in mind. This is a great question bank for classroom use; divide your room into four teams and let 'em go at it! Click here to learn more about Clover Bowl and see the question banks.
