Tennessee History for Kids held a fall retreat-- an entire day of fascinating social studies inservice training for teachers.
The event occurred on Wednesday, November 8, at Cumberland Mountain State Park restaurant and conference center.
Presenters included retired Tennessee Tech professor Calvin Dickinson, Abraham Lincoln interpreter Dennis Boggs, Lisa Oakley of the East Tennessee Historical Society and Bill Carey of Tennessee History for Kids.
Thirty-one teachers from all across the state came and had a wonderful time.
As part of the event, these teachers got to check out the new CCC Museum at the Cumberland Mountain State Park.
They also visited the Cumberland Homesteads Tower Museum.
And, of course, they got to eat lunch at the state park restaurant!
We hope to have more events such as this one in the future. In the meantime, we are staging a winter retreat at the Memphis Cotton Exchange on January 20.
And, speaking of staging....
* Lisa Oakley (education coordinator for the East Tennessee Historical Society)
* Bill Carey (founder and executive director of TN History for Kids)
In addition to the Cumberland Homesteads Tower Museum, this event will include a visit to the new CCC Museum at Cumberland Mountain State Park.
