The birthplace of Cordell Hull
CORDELL HULL
It’s a long way from a tiny log cabin in Pickett County, Tennessee, to the United Nations Headquarters in New York. But Cordell Hull, who was born in such a place, is rightfully known as the Father of the United Nations.

Hull was a long-time member of Congress appointed by President Franklin Roosevelt to be Secretary of State in 1933. He remained in that office for 11 years and did everything he could to try to stop World War II from taking place, and failed in that effort. But during the war he was convinced that an international organization, stronger than the failed League of Nations, could stop wars from taking place in the future. Because of this he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945.
