The new posters are making their way out there!!!
We have a new poster, featuring photographs from Tennessee History for Kids virtual tours. It's two-by-three feet and illustrates wonderful things such as the Cumberland Gap, De Soto National Monument, Old Stone Fort, The Alamo and the National Civil Rights Museum. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to mail them free of charge to individual teachers (like we did last year), so we are depending on individual contacts in each county to distribute them. So.. if you live in: * Anderson, Bradley, Crockett, Davidson, Franklin, Grainger, Hamilton, Hardeman, Henry, Houston, Johnson, Lauderdale, Marion, Marshall, Maury, McMinn, McNairy, Montgomery, Moore, Morgan, Rhea, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Washington and Wilson counties, you should be able to get a poster through your county 4-H extension office. * Giles, Hamblen, Jefferson, Monroe, Putnam, Sevier, Shelby, Sevier, Sullivan (county), Sumner, Williamson (county) and Van Buren county schools and Franklin (city schools) and Murfreesboro (city schools), you should be able to get a poster through your school system's curriculum person. * Many state legislators are distributing them. Among the state representatives sending them to schools are William Baird, Rob Briley, Harry Brooks, Kevin Brooks, Glen Casada, Tom Dubois, Dolores Gresham, Bill Harmon, Mike Harrison, Phillip Johnson, Sherry Jones, Susan Lynn, Steve McDaniel, Debra Maggart, Charles Sargent and Ben West Jr. State Senators Bo Watson, Joe Haynes and Mark Norris has also sent out posters. If you don't fall into these areas, here's how YOU can get one: 1) Contact your social studies curriculum coordinators, 4-H county agents, or State House and Senate member and ask them (nicely) if they would get you a copy. If they don't know how to get them, tell them to contact Bill Carey at email bill@tnhistoryforkids.org; phone 615-477-1644. 2) We can mail you one directly to you but we must have the shipping and handling money in advance. So if you would like one or more to be mailed directly to you -- and YOU ARE A SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER IN TENNESSEE -- mail a check for the appropriate shipping and handling charge to: Bill Carey Tennessee History for Kids Nashville City Center 511 Union Street; Suite 1850 Nashville, TN 37219 Please include your name, school, complete school mailing address, and the following amounts: Here are the shipping and handling costs: For one poster: $4 For two posters: $5 For three posters: $6 For four posters: $7 And so on (add $1 for to the amount for each poster requested. So 20 posters cost $23; simply add THREE to the number of posters you want). If you are not a social studies teacher, please recognize that we must charge for these posters because their main purpose is to hang in classrooms. So add $5 per poster to the shipping and handling amount. So, for instance, sent $9 for one poster; $15 for two; $21 for three; $27 for four, etc. Finally.... Bill Carey will be attending the Tennessee Association of Middle Schools conference in Franklin in June and will be giving away posters there.
