County Seat: Shelbyville
Shelbyville used to be known for its production of pencils. The pencil business isn't nearly as big as it used to be, but there are still a couple of pencil factories in what used to be known as "Pencil City, U.S.A." Click here for a virtual tour of one of them -- the Musgrave Pencil Co. Bedford County also contains a small, charming community called Bell Buckle. Once a thriving stop on the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway, Bell Buckle didn't vanish from the map as did many railroad communities in Tennessee. The home of a well-known boarding school called Webb School, Bell Buckle hosts many festivals. One is the RC/Moon Pie Festival and 10 kilometer road race in June, where you can burn thousands of calories and then make up for it by eating part of the world's largest Moon Pie!
