Journey Downriver: A History of Tennessee (workbook for the high school elective class on Tennessee history)

Announcing the release of the biggest book ever published by Tennessee History for Kids.

It’s called Journey Downriver: A History of Tennessee, and is intended to be a textbook for the high school elective class in Tennessee history.

Unlike our other workbooks, it is full-sized (8.5 X 11), perfect bound, and 136 pages in length.

Journey Downriver covers EVERY phase of Tennessee history, from pre-history through Native American culture through statehood, the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement and recent events.

It is organized into small, lesson-sized chapters that are written in the same manner as the Tennessee History for Kids website and our existing workbooks.

Even though each page is full of standards-based facts, the writing style is READABLE and ENTERTAINING — not SCHOLARLY and BORING!

If you look at the Table of Contents — see the right column — you can see Journey Downriver’s chapter names. (And as in all our workbooks, the chapters are listed with the number of the social studies standard.)

Every chapter is followed by quiz questions, and the paper is such that students can write the answers in pencil, if they choose.

Like all our workbooks, Journey Downriver: A History of Tennessee was edited by three wonderful Tennessee public school teachers who have taught the high school course in Tennessee history. These three teachers — Christy Owens of Rutherford County, Daniel Batey of Marshall County and Joseph White of Collierville — made lots of suggestions about content, quiz questions, working, etc.

And, like all of our workbooks and posters, Journey Downriver was designed by Angie Jones of One Woman Design.

However, unlike any workbook we’ve ever produced before, we aren’t pre-printing Journey Downriver in quantity.

They are printed, as soon as they are ordered, at a Rutherford County company called Ingram Spark. That’s one of the reasons it is priced differently than our other workbooks.

Individual copies of Journey Downriver are available at retailers (stores and online) for $24.95Click here to buy a copy from Amazon.

Teachers, schools and school systems who want to buy 10 or more copies of Journey Downriver can purchase them for $15 each by ordering directly from TN History for Kids. Click here to do this.

Suffice it to say that we are VERY PROUD of this workbook and we think readers across the state — especially high school students and teachers — will LOVE it as well!
